me and a friend of mine have been in argument all night about this and im going to prove him wrong now the sunbird and cavalier are the same car pretty much so I figured it wouldn't be to much of a foul putting this on here anyway he has a 1990 cavalier z24 and he hates fwd so I told him to convert it to rwd using a firebird or camaro frame and use a v8 now heres where the argument started he swears that this wont work and that a cavalier or sunbird have to be fwd have any of you seen this swap or heard about im to the point I want to do it myself just prove my point it kind of seems appealing I like sleepers a lot with a lt1 and small quite exhaust it would rip some rice burner arse lol

Well.... anything is possible if you spend the money.

It would need soooo many mods and custom fabwork though.

also, you need a driveshaft tunnel, that would require gutting the interior, cutting out the middle, welding in new metal, then trying to make everything fit back in place ( which will not be possible. )

The carpet and center console will not fit at all, and the seats most likely will not either.

also, extensive custom work to the firewall will probably be needed.

You will also need to create a spot for the back axle to sit, which also would require making mounting points for the axle itself.

Then there is the huge amount of electrical nightmares you would have in doing the swap.

My honest opinion.... It would be totally badass. I also LOVE sleepers, nothing better then pulling up on an unsuspecting mustang or camaro and killing it:cool:

BUT, I don't think it would be worth the hassle at all unless you do a good amount of reasearch, and know how to do the custom stuff yourself or are not afraid to drop some serious cash on having a shop do it for you.

And what year Firebird or Camaro frame would you use????

1982-1992 are the years and it wouldn't be a lot of fab work because you can cut out the unibody and sub frame from the camaro or firebird with the fire wall and mold them to the body of the z24 and you could proabbly use the interrior I would also make a custom wide body kit and fill in the back side windows some what to get a better look with a t-5 and a 350 tbi or carbed 350 it would scream

Just what you mentioned is a lot a fab work. But with enough work anything can be done...Just a matter of if it's worth it.

IMO you would be a whole lot better off investing your time it your turbochicken.

BTW just exactly what Pontiacs had a so-called HO 301??

im not sure I know they were produdced but they are extremely rare go to wikipedia.com and type in pontiac v8 engine and click on the 301 link on the left that will shed some light on it and he should just go for a camaro instead right (i knew I was right haha)

btw I just re read that on wiki I can use a 80-81 301 block as well

Interesting, as I have never heard of one before. Respectfully, I am a bit skeptical on what wikipedia tells though. However they are correct on the turbo blocks being a bit beefier though.

I do know where there is a turbo motor setting. But it's been outside for several years and it's hard to say if it's salvageable or not.

So do you have a Firebird to put this stuff into? Honestly if you do I would look at 350-455 Pontiac engines. As I mentioned before the 301 cranks are notoriously know for being weak. Have you ever seen one? If not, let me know and I can post a pic comparing it to a 350-455 crank.
