I'll be the first to say I love my car, at almost ten years old and 150,000 miles I've had very few issues with the vehicle I affectionately call "The Turtle" (citrus green Aztek). But with age she's starting to have some issues. Overheating has been the first big one and I've had to stop several times on my 20 mile commute to let her cool down.
I just replaced the thermostat in her and I've been bleeding air for the better part of a week. First on the upper (left hand) valve and then on the bleeder valve attached to the thermostat housing. I can't find any leaks anywhere nor can I find anywhere along the path of the cooling system that I can tell there is air being introduced into the system. The temperature gauge rises into the red and I get a "Hot Coolant Temp" alert. After a couple of minutes that will go away and the gauge will fall back to the middle range again for a few minutes before beginning to rise again. I can't believe how much air I've already gotten out of this system but it's been almost a week now. Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong or what I can do to fix the problem?
