overheating

hi, i ust want some information, i got a 98 sunfire and is overheathing, i already replace the thermostat, and it worked fine for a while, but now is overheathing again, so, there is this guy who told me taht sunfires have an aluminium head, and if they overheat once, it will mess the head and you will need to replace it, is that right? can you give me more info about the heads? i thought that maybe the gauge or the sensor was not working fine, but... can anybody help me?

That is correct, if you overheat your engine, the headers will warp, which will eventually punch a hole in your engine block. Happened to me with a nasty antifreeze leak. That stuff got right into the headers. When it was all said and done, I was forced to replace the engine (thank god for scrap yards). Anyway, check your antifreeze levels. You may have a leak. Although we have a sensor for that.... However you go about it, I wouldn't drive it at all until you get that problem solved. Good luck!
 
whats that sensor you are talking about? one for the antifreeze or
temperature?
 
and also, it just hapens in the long way, like after 45 minutes driving, is that what yours use to do?

if u havent got that problem fixed yet... i had the same problem with mine and had to replace the waterpump cause mine was always overheating after 45 min
 
its fixed now, i replace the water pump and flush the radiator, and viola, that was after replacing the thermostat and the temperature sensor
