Ok so now I have this car narrowed down to only one code.

The CEL on my car never seems to go away, even if the problem is resolved, no matter how many miles I drive my car. It seems to only go away when I clear the codes. So today, I did that, I went to O'reilly and cleared the codes with their scanner. On my way to Fred Meyer to send out a fax, the CEL came back on which I suspected it would so I went to a different O'reilly that was closer. Hooked up their scanner, only one code came up this time which is "P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)". Wouldn't that make my car consumer more gas and make the MPG's go down? Cause so far the gas mileage seems fine, but I haven't let it get to low so I'm not sure.

Also, would my symptoms be linked to the oxygen sensor? Long cranking when the engine is warm, even longer cranking when engine is cold, car sometimes stalling, gas smell coming from the car (don't know where), after it stalls it takes a few times for the car to come on and stay on even though it sounds like it wants to die?

Here are a couple pictures of what the scanner brought up. Not sure what this means....

"Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry."

Would this be a good indication of that?

No, that looks like a standard paper filter. What they are talking about are the reusable oiled filters from K&N and the like. The first thing to do is look for a vacuum leak, and check/clean you MAF sensor. CRC makes a MAF cleaner that you can find in most FLAPS. If none of that helps, you need to look at your upstream O2 sensor.

Well that filter is weird, cause the little strip of whatever that is wasn't on there when I installed it. But I ended up replacing the filter last night anyway. Thought maybe that could be the "silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry" but that's for a MAF and I just found out my car doesn't have a MAF.

The vacuum lines that I looked at under the hood looked fine, but I'll look more into it later with a vacuum diagram. I'm starting to think it's linked to the vapor canister or purge valve so I'll check those later. If those are fine I'll replace the oxygen sensor since I have a spare.
