Our daughter has a 2000 gt v6 , her car recently starting making a noise, then her serpentine belt broke and we changed that, notice the engine light with code p0336 crankshaft position sensor, cleared it, let her drive it and it came back same code. I will get a sensor tomorrow, but my question is did that cause the belt to break ( it didn't look worn) or did we damage that when changing the belt? Also does the code always correspond with the problem? The only issue is a noise, we tried to identify where , but we were unable to isolate it. Thanks

It's possible that the belt may have damaged the wiring to the sensor when it broke. Do all the pulleys and idlers turn freely?

Yes all pulleys do move freely. I'll have my husband check the wiring to the sensor first .
