I have a problem with my 2001 Grand Am. The parking brake does not click when you move the handle nor does it "stick" in place like it normally does when the parking brake is working.

Is there any adjustment I can do to fix this or will I need a whole new parking brake assembly? Thanks for your help.

sounds like the teeth are stripped

I'm the OP, haven't looked at the brake in a while, but have inspection due this month so I'll have to fix it. I should say that, when I hold up the lever myself, the brake does hold the car. But like I said, it doesn't click or stay up by itself.

Does fixing the teeth or the prawl require a whole new lever assembly or is there some other way to fix it?

Usually that is replaced as a complete assembly, check a junk yard.
