My son's car is having problems we're attributing to this "passlock" feature. I've read on here and other places where people are cutting a wire, putting in diodes, and other things, and I'm wondering if simply buying a new "ignition lock cylinder case" would solve this problem. I've watched a Dorman video explaining how to replace this and it seems it should solve the problem if it is in fact whats wrong. I'm just curious why people are cutting wires and putting in the diodes, then having the security light on all the time if this is all it takes. Can someone enlighten me please?

It's my understanding that the key resistance has to match the code set in the car's computer not the ignition lock, which has no computer logic built into it.
