First I must state that I am no mechanic but a computer engineer that learns on the fly. I am tired of local shop mechanics BS'in me and trying to rob me of my money. Now here goes the problem, please bear with me if what I write doesn't make sense...

Ok so I bought this 71 Lemans 350 Sport. Initially the car had 2 Valve Cover Breathers. I noticed that the PCV valve located at the front passenger side was plugged with a small hose and a nut/screw. I noticed a similar PCV valve looking hole on the driver side and that was simply open.

Long story short. Passenger side does not have a breather. Driver side does. Driver side breather has some sludge in it. PCV valve is connected to the other hole/port on driver side.

I had an oil leak out of the rear seal on acceleration... I think oil change done, they put too much oil in it (shop) and I think all of these combinations led to this oil leak. I check levels, looked low, put a bottle in. Looks fine. Drove car around, no leak since...

I have a Holley 650 Carb and looks like only vacuum used is for kickdown/tranny.

What should the correct setup be on this engine and/or what should I do?? And can someone kindly explain in simpleton terms what PCV does vs Valve Cover Breathers etc.

Thanks!

your car should have a non-vented cap on the drivers side. The passenger side had a tube going to a connector on the air cleaner assemby. The PC is located in a rubber grommet found on the valley pan under the intake manifold in front of the carburetor.
