I have a 1972 lemans with a 350 engine and I am installing a PerTronix 1181 Ignitor. The directions and all the videos I find never say anything about what to do with what looks to be a jumper wire from the vacuum advance rear mounting point and the points mounting point. Does anyone know what that jumper wire is for and does it need to stay if installing a PerTronix 1181 Ignitor? I don't have a photo at this time but will try to upload one later. I assume it will need to stay but would like to be sure.

Thats the ground for the plate to the body of the distributor for the ignition points.
Does the PerTonix have it's own ground wire, if so you dont need the plate ground wire.

Thanks Mel! The Pertronix has two wires coming out of it. The red goes to the positive on the coil and the black goes to the negative on the coil, so no plate ground wire needed. Thanks again for the confirmation.

I meant if three wires are used. With only two the bottom of the unit may ground and need the wire. Do not remove the plate wire before checking with PerTronix.
