Please Help. Axle Shaft Retaining Ring.

Just bought my first Pontiac, it is a sunfire, I knew it was needing work, was told it was tie rod ends and it ends up being the cv axle. Not a big deal I thought, well after ordering one and it being the wrong kind I finally got the right part and the guy at store said I need to take this retaining ring off the end of the axle shaft that goes into the transmission.

And that's were I am stuck. Can someone please help me on how to get this ring off? I can post a pic if needed.
 
2001, and my lingo is a bit off, the part I am needing help removing is also referred to as a stub shaft. ill check video thanks for quick response!
 
Ok just watched video and because he didn't replace the axle he didn't show how to remove that stub shaft. He put the old one back in.

Arent you replacing the whole shaft that he removed and reinstalled?
 
Yes, I am replacing the whole shaft but the store says this ring is part of transmission and must come off, and be placed on the new unit.

Here is the inner stub shaft ring I speak of.
