Ok, I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT. It has been having trouble starting for the past 2 months. It will eventually start but it seems like its taking at least 5 minutes sometimes and then other times it just starts right up. It is definitely cranking when I turn the key. I noticed recently that the SECURITY light DOES come on, but I do not know if the car would actually try to crank if the security light was on?????? I have had the battery and alternator checked. We changed out the fuel filter and I thought it was fixed but it started doing it again yesterday! Please if anyone has any clue as to what it could be please help!! If it is the SECURITY, how do I bypass that????

your car has epuiped gm passlock system, there is a sensor on the top of ignition key cylinder.if the security light flashing when you turn the key,and keep cranking with no start up, the pcm cut the fuel pump power. only thing you can do, just turn the key on, and wait 10mins. when the light become steady, that mean the pcm relearn the key u used , then you can start again. if the thing keep happening again, the better way is changing key cylinder. due to worn out key cylinder will mislead pcm cut fuel pump power off.
by the way, after you change the key cylinder, do the same thing- turn the key on and wait for 10 mins. after the pcm relearn the new key, then u can start.
