I have to replace the engine on my daughters 2006 pontiac torrent - timing sprocket on crank broke key and slipped causing pistons to hit valves and bend some.

The Haynes manaual I have says to remove the entire engine and transmission and sub frame assembly from the bottom. I have already removed the engine heads so have most everything disconnected on top - it looks like it would be a lot easier to just pull the engine from the top. I found that the troque converter can be unbolted from the flywheel through the starter opening. Not sure how many other bolts there are to split the transable from the engine and the location.

I assume most of the front wheel drive and 3.4 L engine assemblies are pretty similar on other pontiacs like GranAms. Has anyone removed a 3.4 L engine from the top ?? If you have do you recall how many bolts held the transaxle to the engine and their location ??

thanks
Gary
