I wonder if somebody could remind me of a couple of basics. I just can't seem to find the info on the net today but I bet some Pontiac veteran will know right off the bat. I seem to recall that at some point Pontiac made a change to the size of the flange at the back of the crank, where the snub of the torque converter would fit in, and that would be a consideration in terms of interchangeability. This has to be done on a budget, and I'm mostly seeing mid-late 70s stuff is easier to find. The original tranny is still in the car. I know that in like 1970 they changed the mounting bolt arrangement on the block, 2 bolts vs. 3, different pattern, etc, but I am less concerned about that. So I remember that I couldn't put like a '78 engine in there, but perhaps '75 would fit. Know what I mean? Pre-70 would be best, fo sho.
This is a '68 Ventura (Catalina) that came with a 400. I still have it for sale on the classified forum...anyway, as bizarre as it seems we may have to put an engine in the thing just to get rid of it. I just need to get the VIN verified but it needs an engine in it. Doesn't have to run, though if I go to this trouble I would like to at least have a chance to get it to run. 'course if somebody wants it as is we'll take like $250 if we get to keep the plates, or $500 if you want the plates. Thanks,
MT
