My parents just gave me their old car, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE, to drive back and forth to work. My brother backed into a trailer last year in it and busted out the driver's side tail light. I found a tail light on ebay but the guy isn't emailing me back...it says it's off of a '97 Grand Am...are the '97 Grand Am tail lights the same as the 2000's?

I have called the junk yard and they want 75 bucks...and my cousin's fiance is a car detailer and he can't get me one under 100 bucks...I found one on ebay for 20 bucks!

No the bodystyle changed in 1999 they do not have the same taillight.

Call any Pontiac dealer and the parts dept. will gladly tell you.Thats the best I can do.

my guess would be that it doesn't, why don't you just go to your local auto parts store and buy one.

Suggest to show up in person with some tools at some of the off-the-beaten track junkyards.

Even with today's environment of liabilities and lawsuits, some will still let you go out and pull the parts yourself, and give you a heck of a deal to boot. Plus if you find a donor car - never know what else you may want to pull off.

Tailight compatibility....

Hey there,

Almost all Grand Ams from 1999 to 2005 had the same style of headlamps and tailamps. Any years earlier will not work with a '99 or newer GA.

The '90's GAs were technically known as "Generation Fours" where as the '99 and newer GAs were "Generation Fives." Hence the new version being called the "G6."

Head and taillamps changed with each generation of Grand Am making any earlier or newer generation's completely incompatible with anything other than what is from your generation of Grand Am.

Get your mney back from that guy on ebay and order tailights from a Grand Am from 99 or up.

Hope this helps,
Starflare5.
