Pontiac GTO

that's unusual, the slushbox faster? Is it the gearing or driveline? Or are slushboxes finally able to launch hard enough these days? GM was getting worse about putting lazy gears with sticks, like 2.73's with a stick and 3.42's with an auto.

my assumption is that due to the slushbox gearing the car can reach 60 in 1st gear. whereas, in the manual you would have to shift once. the manual is still a better option from a performance standpoint.

2005 Gto

We bought our 2005 GTO because we do like the looks of it and the power of the LS2. It is a subtle and strong running car. We drove a new Mustang and didn't care for it much. The looks are there, but the feel inside missed for us. The GTO has a good feel to it and is fun to drive. Ours almost has the 500 miles on it for break in.

Ahhhhh THE ENGINE

I like 66-67, but the real thing is the engine. The early GTO's only stuck out close up. You had tempest and lemans, and the other GM brethern of the same body style. olds were there too, 442- thats my no 2 body . The big cars are not sports cars, h=---in a straight line though. They can be improved. m

gears

That's backward. Slushbox'/s should go with the lower number ratio. Decent power in the auto's should chirp ever time your foot is down when it changes gears. I like sticks, but a full clutch pack and decent torque conveter will wear out your tires quick. Thats another problem in competing with sports cars- you just can't get enough tire under there stock. It's tough to get those cars to the point where all four tires start to drift at the same time.

I think they missed the mark big time with the GTO. I admit it's a great car that brings back the true image of a GTO. Big powerful engine in a mid-size car, but they should have gone with the retro look. Ford hit it big with the '05 mustang. Pontiac should have brought back some styling influences.
to be honest im tired of retro. bring the names back but make a NEW statement. instead of giving us the same old thing. im not sayin i hate it...when the first of the new goats came out i wasnt impressed. thought it looked like an updated grand am mixed with a grand prix. but the '05+ looks amazing. and with minimum changes. the point is...pontiac told us they were bringin the gto back and they also let us know that it was going to be a redesign. not a retro styled car. and they stuck with it. they didnt go with the crowd. now i can't wait to see the redesign of it in '08 (supposedly)
