Pontiac Lemans Stalling problem

I have a problem with my 1970 Pontiac Lemans Sport idleing poorly. Whenever I am in drive and I stop, the engine stalls after a few seconds. I have considered many possibilities of what it could be. Obviously, I thought it could be a vacuum leak at first because the car jolts before stalling. However, we have a new carburetor and I do not know too much about vacuum lines and hoses, but I did notice that the vacuum advance is not plugged in. Could this make my car stall?

Like I said, I do not know how to find the vacuum line very well, so any help with finding vacuum lines in older cars such as mine would be much appreciated.

I also noticed a hole in the engine. I attached a picture of it and I dont know if it has to do with anything or if it is supposed to be there.

As you can tell, I do not know much about engines so please guide me and excuse my ignorance.

Thats not a hole in the engine, a hose attaches to that and runs up to the air cleaner to supply warm air to the engine when it is first started. A disconnected vacuum line can cause the engine to stall. You might want to invest in the 1970 Chasis Service Manual which is available on CD at sites such as www.amesperf.com

Remove the air cleaner so you can get a good look at the carburetor. The small rubber hoses attached to it are vacuum lines. They slide over "ports" at different locations around the carb. If you see any open ports, disconnected or damaged hoses, that could be your problem.
