Hello,

I have a big problem, I have a Pontiac Sunbird 3.8 liter V6 automatic and recently has no more drive in the drive, 1, 2 and 3rd gear. This began by shooting from the gear (higher rpm) until almost no drive. If the car is stationary and the car is in the drive then there is just enough strength to get the car to roll. In the R backwards the drive is just perfect and fast. The car is just neat in gear, the feeling is that the clutch fully slipping. When reading from the the oil level was minimal. After this have to be filled, there was no noticeable difference in strength. I also removed the carter the automatic release had the oil was very dark but there was no further metal fiber. I have no knowledge of machines, I just know that the machine in very fast time has gone from good to bad.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea where I should look for the problem.

thanks in advance, Michael

I'd start with a change of transmission fluid and filter, but you may have a rebuild in your near future. Get the fluid changed and keep an eye on it, just don't let anyone talk you into a flush, with it's age, a flush could very well do more damage than good.

Dark (black) fluid usually means the internal clutches are burned out, so its time for a rebuild.

Sounds like you are in Europe ?

Changing the filter and fluid wont help you and rebuild kits usually dont come with clutches, you need special tools and a rebuild manual so a used trans might be a better answer in your case.

Try here........ www.car-part.com. Many to choose from, get an " A" rated one with low miles and a guarente. Try for a 1994 or so since GM fixed alot of the problems with the TH125c trans in the later years.
