Pontiac sunfire 1999?

I have the opportunity to buy a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire for $200. And it has been looked at by a mechanic who is a friend of my boyfriend and he says all it needs it the brakes replaced which will be about $700.
However I am skeptical to buy the car because it is an older model and has 200,000km on it. And I haven't the opportunity to fully look at the car.
They are looking to get rid of it in the within the day and if I don't take it the mechanic will.

Is this a smart buy?

well,you won't lose much if you do buy it and it breaks down..so might as well buy it till it breaks.

This is one of those "Ride and drive; let your conscience be your guide" deals. The mileage is right; if you trust your boyfriend, and he trusts the mechanic, go for it. $900 wouldn't be a bad price after repairs.
