!$%!#@!? I have a serious problem with my 1996 Pontiac Sunfire. I'm not that great with vehicles so I'm turning to yahoo ^_^ Ok, here we go...my car makes a clicking sound when the brakes are applied between speeds 15mph to 40mph when the ABS dash light is OFF. The car does not make fast repeted clicks above or below these speeds when the ABS dash light is OFF. There is another problem with these clicks, my lights dim down. Not only my headlights, my dome light, dash lights, and have even noticed my heater/ac slows down when brakes are applied and I hear these clicks. Here is the contrast, when the ABS dash light is ON the car NEVER makes a clicking sound when the brakes are applied at any rate of speed and I never have my lights dim down. A guy at auto zone told me it was a speed sensor, but like I've said I'm not a guru at cars. Also I haven't forked out the money yet to change the speed sensor yet either. Any ideas would be spectacular!!!!

As I understand things, the ABS light should never be on unless there is a malfunction or during the self-test at start-up. Since the problem occurs in relation to the light being on or off, suggest to have the ABS system looked at / fixed.

It may not even be brake related the ABS lamp on with a dimming of the lights ususlly means the alternater is on it's way out , at any rate it's worth checking at your local parts store (they usually will run alternater diag for free)
if that checks OK I would think that you may have an issue with the ABS module itself possibly a motor fault in the ABS or one of the solinoids that control the ABS system..
it would be best checked by a shop ...
