i have a hessitation sometimes bad sometimes not but it is most noticable while driving up a hill at appox 80 km/hr

I encounter this all the time at my dealership. You didnt specify your mileage or wether or not the check engine light was on but the most common (and for whatever reason is common) I have found a cracked spark plug on either the number one cylinder or the number 5 cylinder.... Now when you open the hood of the torrent you will see a large plastic engine cover. when you remove the cover you will see the front bank of cylinders. These are cylinders 2, 4 and 6 Cylider 1, 3 and 5 are at the rear of the engine compartment and accessing the sparkplugs is difficult without a lift. Cylinder 1 is the closest cylinder to the engine belt. cylider 5 is closest to the driver side of the vehicle. I should tell you the most common problem for these engines is a spark plug that has the porcelain crack and the spark grounds out. This often happens under only certain engine load conditions such as part throttle pulling a hill. cylinders 2, 4 and 6 at the front of the engine are easy plugs to access with the engine cover off. cylinders 1,3 and 5 are difficult to gain access to the plug. having the vehicle on a lift makes it so much easier. If i were betting vegas I'd say your number one ore number 5 spark plug had a crack in the insulator. this is easy to identify as the crack will be burned black against the white porcelain of the spark plug insulator.

Hesitation ,shutter, spark plug problem

Becca,
I'm having the same problem. I changed the #1 cyl plug twice within a week and I still have the same problem. The last time I even tried an autolite double platinum plug. Do you have any other suggesions. You were dead on about which plugs to check. The plug was exactly as you described. I'm impressed. So I replaced the plug and within a few days, the same problem came back. I put in another plug and the same day the plug cracked. That's when I tried the autolite double platinum. Still have the hesitaion and shutter. I plan on removing the autolite plug to check it, today. What is causing these plug to fail? the only plug I haven't checked is the #3cyl. I'm goint to check that today. Do you think it's time to take it to the dealer? I've got 40,000+ miles on the car. And I do have an extended warranty with $100.00 deductible.

Also, my check engine light did come on. I'll see if i can retrieve the code.

Kobal,
Have you had the chance to take the vehicle into a GM dealership yet? If not, I would recommend taking the vehicle into the dealership to be diagnosed. They should be able to assist you further and have a plan for addressing the issue. If you have any other concerns, please feel free to PM me. Thank you.

Same issue here. 07 Torrent 49K. Anyone have a solution? Dealership replaced plug in cyl 1. Was fine for a day. Next day the issue is back. Check engine light never came on. Dealership says there are no error codes coming up.

Thanks for any help

Torrents from 2007 forward have the five year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Don't know if this is covered or not. I would ask.

I have 2007 with 50K miles and had similar issues couple of years ago. Mine just needed new plug wires as I recall. I know this doesn't address the cracking plug issue. Sorry.

got a 2007 torrent had the same same promblem got it fix today plugs and wires it's running perfect now

Please take your vehicles into a dealership. There was a recall on the spark plugs/wires and based on what we heard today, we may be having to have them continually replaced. We had them replaced in Nov/Dec on our 2009 torrent and have them replacing them again today. Supposedly GM has extended the warranty on our vehicle for the spark plugs/wires to 120,000 miles/10 years.
