Power Steering leak from the Cap

Hi All, I'm somewhat stumped.

My 2005 Pontiac Montana started leaking from the cap. Enough that I was replacing fluid every few days. I did some research and replaced the pump, cap, and high pressure line. I jacked it up and bled the system. While under the car, I noticed no leaks from the steering box (where the hoses connect under the car).

Drove a long trip last yesterday, the first time since I replaced the aboveforemention, and had to pull over when the pump started it's high whinning. The fluid was low, so I refilled the resver, I had to add fluid twice.

Anyother ideas to persue?

Well sounds weird , has to be leaking somewhere , its a sealed system . There is the rack and the hoses and a little cooler and the pump. Look at the cooler in front of the radiator maybe it is leaking slowly . Perhaps a rock or something to that effect came up and pierced it ? On my 03 the cooler line is just a loop of cooler line that stretches about halfway across the bottom of the rad . Not sure about the 05 but you would think something similar . Just follow one of the lines from the rack it should go out to cooler before it goes back to pump. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would like to apologize for the issues that you are experiencing with your Montana. I understand your concerns with this. Does the steering feel normal?
If there is a restriction in the return line the pump will build pressure with no where for it to go. Rubber lines are layered and the inside can deteriorate and collapse while the outside still appears to be fine. Since you have found no leaks an inspection/replacement of the return line may be needed.

think I have found solution

After replacing the pump and high pressure hose, i noticed a leak near the front radiator. It was not there before. The low pressure cooling section was rusted out. I'm replacing it today with a Advance Auto cooling radiator $20. Going to use fuel injection clamps instead of the worm clamps.

should be back in business by the end of today.

Stacy, Thanks for the advertisement, but I've always believed why pay someone for something you can do yourself. Once changed a car's five speed manual transmission to an automatic. That was fun.
 
completed job, took for a drive worked for a 100 yards and lost power steering. how long does it take to get the air out?

I jacked it back up and turn side to side, but the fluid doesn't drop. Figured a stoppage. took lower hose off while running car, and fluid pumped out fine.
 
Got it. I created my own self bleeding system. that did the trick. Used a mason jar, fish air hose, and a couple of vacumm connectors. did the trick. I used the car's vacumm system to pull the air out.
