Hello Everyone!

I am inquiring about priming a vehicle; I was wondering if anyone out there knows a thing or two about this. I`ve seen many videos on youtube and looked up on google and seen many different ways. I`m wanting to ask you guys and see how you do it (if you have, of course).

First off; when I bring the sheet metal on the car down to metal (with all sheets cut out and replaced), do you put a layer of bondo down first or a layer of primer. Seems to me like primer first to prevent rust. It also get very humid where I live in manitoba.

Also, how do you layer it? Like, do you strip it down to metal, use a primer (what type, heard people use etch but heard etch is for aluminum-- maybe epoxy?) then I assume body putty to remove dints, then 2-3 layers of high build primer, then block sand, then use an epoxy or sealer.

I`m asking you guys if this sounds right to you guys, or how you guys did it and how it turned out. I would have taken it to a body shop but don`t have 12k to get it fixed. I will also be doing all the underside and painting it a flat black. Any suggestions for both cases?

Thanks Everyone!
Kind Regards -- Rylen

You should be asking a lot of these questions to the body supply store where you will purchase the paint. They can best advise as to which primer to use since it has to be compatible with the paint. The use of bondo is usually done when somone doesnt want to spend the time fixing a dent. Have you considered purchasing the book on page 16 of the www.amesperf.com catalogue for Firebirds on painting your car on a budget?
