Hi i just bought a 1993 Firebird formula, its a automatic 5.7l v8 with the ram air system, some times it bogs and totally loses power, mainly when im really beating on it, but sometimes itll do it for no reason.

i just figured out the mass air unit isnt on it and it should be... would that cause this issue, i had a guy pull codes cause of this issue and the check engine soon light is on, he said it gave him error with map sensor and a error with mass air. i replaced the map sensor but havent done the mass air yet as the wiring and everything is gone.

please let me know what you think it is. i would assume i need to install mass air back onto it, but id like to know your thoughts.

is there anyhting else that would cause a total loss of power while driving. it doesnt always do it but once it does it does it alot till i shut it off and turn it back on, a few times ive had it stall at a stop.

ok here is pics of my car, please let me know if its ok to run it around as it is, will it hurt anyhting or will it leave me stranded somewhere, best guess of course i know you cant say for sure....

how can you car run without a mass air flow sensor? doesnt make sense to me. have you tested fuel pressure. Exactly what are the codes that the computer is indicating?

ok i figured out that a 93 doesnt have mass air, its speed density, so my mechanic was BS'ing me on the codes.

i changed the fuel filter....

first i ran a fuel pressure test, it was 31 at idle, but when i throttled and held it at 2500 rpms or so it would hit 40 and drop right back to 30. so i tried it multiple times 31 idle then throttle and hold it at 3000rpms when you first throttle it it hits 40 then instantly drops to 30.

after filter change same results, 31 idle, 40 for milisecond and instant drop back to 30 even while holding it at constant 3000rpms, it never went above 40 no matter what i did.

so would you think as i do the pump is bad or on its last leg.

see if the pressure regulator has an internal leak, pull the vacuum hose and see if gas leaks out

in a separate post you indicate you replaced the fuel pump, did you run the fuel pressure test again?

yes now my fuel pressure is proper but when i shut the vehicle off now the lines drain really fast, and when i start it most times i have to turn the key on and wait for it to prime then start it or it takes it a few seconds to start. im sure i could figure it out but i dont have time so im going to just have a shop fix it.

could be a leaking fuel injector/s
