Hello to everyone,
I am new to the Grand Am Forum and have a couple of questions. Mine is a '04 GrandAm GT. The motor is blown.
The transmission is good. I have two other Pontiacs, a 96 Bonneville SE and a '02 Bonneville SE.

My question is, do the 3.8L motors and the 4 Spd AT from either the 96 Bonny or the 02 Bonny fit into the Grand Am?

Thanks in advance.
Rich

The 3.4 in a Grand Am is a 60 degree V6. The 3.8 is a 90 degree V6 so it's wider. Doubt it will fit, measure it.

Ok will do. These three Pontiacs are the first American cars I've owned in 40 years. I'm still finding my way around these vehicles.
I really don't know how I wound up with three Pontiacs, it was like I had some kind of calling. So far i like all three of them and this Grand Am I picked up is a GT model, it looks really racy. I am surprised they didn't use the 3800s in the Grand Am. So these 3,4L are a good power plant for the Grand Ams ? Is it hard to find a 5 speed for one also ?

I have never tried to find a 5 speed so not sure how difficult plus you need the pedal and hydraulics.

4T40 - 4T45 E is for the smaller Grand Am , 4T60- 4T65E - 4T65 HD is for medium cars like the Bonneville...Trans bolt pattern is the same ( called the "Metric" pattern )

Watch the whole series on YouTube to see what he did...

This is excellent info Doug, thank you for this. These three Pontiacs I have are the first American cars I've had in about 35-40 years. So I'm in a learning curve here. I want to try to (if feasible) to drop a 3.8 in this GrandAm GT. But it looks like a major undertaking. I do thank you for taking the time to send this info. I'll get the hang of these vehicles it's going to me a minute. Thanks again.
