radiator fan not working

I have a 1989 Sunbird LE 2.0 FI A/C(not turbo), and as of recently the radiator fan has not been running. Obviously the vehicle is fine when I'm driving, but when I come to a stop light or heavy traffic, like clockwork it starts overheating. I need to figure out what's wrong before the extremely hot humid summer sets in.
I've already changed the coolant tempature switch which to my suprize didn't help. After initial testing I had assumed the coolant temp switch was defective, due to the fact that when I removed the plug and jumped the connector, the fan would turn on.
Also, once the engine begins to overheat coolant begins leaking out of the radiator lid(directly above the coolant temp switch).
Are there any other components related to the ability of the radiator fans functioning that would create any of these symptoms.

i suppose that you jumped the fan motor from the battery? if that is the case, i would suspect the connector for the sensor is bad. check for voltage at the connector to see if it is getting any juice. i'm not sure what the voltage should be. i would then work my way back to see where the power actually drops off at.

dont jump the fan to the battery you will run it down wire it direct to the fuse box one of the fuses that you are not using jsut as long as it to atleast a 20watt fuse

the best way to fix it is do what my dad and i did we hadded like a raceing fan switch, which you only hook it to the battary and to the fan then turn the knob that it as on it to what ever cooled the most. also we hadded are on tem. gauge because on my 89 sunbird that one didnt work and it runs to the battary and we put the sencer in to the black where another sencer went well if you did any thing on 89 sunbird email me at ibshiften04@yahoo.com i went through hell with mine maybe i can help someone else
