I just had the Montana in, due to a small leak coming from the line that goes from the radiator to the transmission, and was told that I will need to have the radiator replaced. I had it replaced just a few years ago and have not really driven that much. I feel that the previous shop that replaced it did not do a good job as they didn't even use the correct inlet/outlet heater hoses (that is what the current shop told me). So, it would not surprise me if the previous shop did not find a very good radiator. Based on your knowledge, is having to replace the radiator a fairly valid option (to the tune of $700...ugh) or is there something else that can hopefully be done?

Thank you!

if the line is leaking why would you replace the radiator?

X2 to clarify where is the leak? Is it leaking at the connection point to the radiator, the rubber part, at the transmission (for the line leaking), or at an off-shoot some part of the metal.

It is leaking where the line connects to the radiator, actually.

maybe it's me but I still dont understand if the line is leaking or the fitting that is brazed into the radiator tank is leaking?

Where the line connects to the radiator...at that point is where it is leaking. I don't know how else to explain it, I guess. Where the line literally screws to the radiator is where the leak is coming from.

ask the shop why you need a new radiator as opposed to fixing the line or fixing the bad fitting on the current radiator.

After I had the coolant issue fixed, I drove it for awhile and the dash indicator light of low coolant flashed, so I took it back in. They did a pressure test and no coolant had leaked at all - everything is fine. So, would this just be a bad sensor that is giving me a false reading? The dash light still flashes at me, but my coolant is still full.

that sounds like a bad sensor

UPDATE - $198 to correct this dashboard light issue ($90 for the sensor - ugh)...yes, at the mechanic. Transmission line at the radiator still leaks....not a whole lot, so I am not going to worry about this issue for now and just keep an eye on the tranny fluid level.

I tried tightening it, but it wouldn't tighten further. it is a screw-in fitting, actually.
