ok i bought everything that i needed or atleast thought i needed to install my aftermarket radio in my 2001 pontiac sunfire.

i bought the aftermarket radio, the wiring harness and the mount, but when i put all the wires together and connect the wiring adapter, i get no power? has anyone else had this problem? if so how do i resolve it?

Look closely at the wire harness that's attached to the factory plug. Check out the red wire in the adapter harness. The red wire is for the key-switched power wire, and if you look closely, you'll see that it doesn't match up with a wire in the factory plug. That's because the factory radio in the 2000+ Sunfire doesn't use a key-switched power wire; the radio is switched on and off through the vehicle data bus system.

You have two options:

-You can purchase a data bus adapter module, like a Metra GMRC-01. This will link to the data bus and provide an accessory output wire which you can connect to the red wire from your head unit. It will also generate all the vehicle warning chimes, which would otherwise be lost when you remove the factory radio.

-If you don't want to spend the money for the adapter module, you can extend the new deck's accessory power wire to a key-switched power source. You might find a fuse you can tap at the fuse box, or you can connect to the thick brown wire in the key switch harness. You'll lose all the audible warning chimes, and you'll lose the "retained accessory power" feature that keeps the radio on until you open a door.

hey just tap into the red wire and run it to a fuse in the fuse panel
