I have a 2003 Aztek that had a 6 disc CD changer in it that stopped working. Instead of having the unit repaired, I thought it would just be as easy to purchase another used unit, which I did. After I installed the unit, it displays "LOCKED" which I expected. There are many forums, etc. that explain how to get DELCO radios unlocked, but I couldn't even get passed the first step of getting the first 3 codes. So, I decided to take it to the dealer and pay them the $50 to have it unlocked. They said the got it unlocked, but when they cranked the vehicle, it went back to "LOCKED" mode again. They said the PART NUMBER on the "new" unit needed to be the same as the unit that I replaced. I called the company(1 Factory Radio) where I purchased the unit and they said it didn't matter and that I should take it to another dealership, but that they would refund the cost of the unit. My question is has anyone had any similar experiences or any suggestions that I might try before I send the unit back to where I purchased it from? Thanks...

As far as I know, if they program your VIN into the radio it should work. I do know that one place that sells radios says there are a few they can't unlock, but I wouldn't think that would be the case with a dealer. If you want to try another radio, you might try here: http://www.corvetteradios.com/

Thanks for your reply. I went ahead and ordered another radio that matched the PART NUMBER of my current radio and returned the one that couldn't be unlocked. I've read on several sites that RDS radios can't be unlocked and this is the kind that I have. I'm keeping my fingers crossed at this point.

Good luck with it.

@ ta part number does not matter, the radio's are programmed into the computer and it will not work unless u have it programmed(THEFT LOCK), its best u just order a aftermarker radio

they arent programed by part number they are programmed by serial number

OK gang, here's the end result. I put the second radio in the Aztek and took it to the dealer to have it programmed. I believe it was a partially a mistake on my part on the first radio to not tell the service writer to remind the service technician that this was not the original radio from the car and I believe he probably tried to program it as if it was. So, I made sure I told the service writer this time to tell the tech that is was not the original radio and that it needed to be programmed to match the VIN number on the Aztek using the Tech 2 Scan Tool that I read about on the net. This time it worked like a charm! I really believe the first replacement radio would have worked, but there was failure in communication between me, the service writer, and the service tech.
