Radio Problems

I have an 01 grand am gt

So my Battery died about a month ago, And I had the stock Monsoon Audio system in my car. Well it caused it to lock out and I have been without music for longer then I ever wanted. I don't have the code to unlock it. So I figure The is a great time to get a new better audio deck. So my Wife has a friend who works for a car audio company, and he sent us new speakers, the mount replacement, and the wiring hookups for this car. of of the dates match for my car. I wire all the colors to what the stuff says to do... Turn on the car...push power and....big fat nothing! So I was wondering. if the stock Radio locks out...do you NEED to unlock it before installing a new deck?

The factory monsoon system has a factory amplifier located in the trunk, on the drivers side, behind the carpet. When replacing the factory head unit, this amp should also be bypassed, or else the higher power levels from the new deck will burn it out. There is a complete harness kit that allows you to do this (can't remember the part #). Or use Metra part #GMOS-04 for a direct connection. I am an installer, so let me know if this helps.
