I was originally driving on the highway yesterday when it started. It happened shortly after slowing down to go onto a single-lane highway, about 10km in (already drove 200km+).

The temperature rose rapidly to overheat and the overheated protection warning comes on. There is no steam and there is no heat blowing from the vents after the inital build-up afterwards.

Vehicle is apparently still drivable up to 60km/h for limited time (on Friday) before the temperature gauge eventually raises up to the danger zone. Today on Saturday, it it only up to 40-45.

The oil is not tainted with a milky look (if a head gasket blew).

Also got a OBD2 code of P0141 that started earlier this morning, but this has happened before as a false alarm (and never returned after erasure) when there is a lot of moisture in the air/ground. It is mild in my area (around freezing) with snow on the ground.

LMK if what it could be and how long it could take to repair it. Thanks.

Did you check the coolant level when the engine is cold? If it's low you have a leak and without coolant or the pressence of air pockets you will effect the car heater. Pressure test the system and in particular check the intake manifold gaskets.

the first that comes to mind is perhaps air or an air pocket in your cooling system ,I would check for that and re-bleed if necessary . Also keep checking for a head gasket keep an eye on the oil . It is very important to catch a head gasket early on. Some where I read on this forum from our members about bleeding there systems ,sometimes it gets tricky when you have rear/hvac.

It still has sufficient coolant when cold and there is no leak.

The coolant has not been changed recently (was last changed in June of last year) and mileage has been over 32,000km

The oil is not tainted with a milky look.

Is there a possibility that the water pump has given out?

Currently, my van is an icebox without heat.

water pumps typically develop a leak, they dont just stop working. The sudden spike in temperature sounds like a stuck closed thermostat which then popped open and stuck in the open position thus no heat but you say the temp. gauge is climbing again. I would have the system pressure tested for a leak that you cannt see visually.
