Heck of a first post. I have a 1984 fiero that I use as a daily driver. Its a 4cly auto version. Recently it has been making a "ratcheting like noise from someplace at the rear lefthand side. I dont know if it is in the tranny or the transaxle? I have a workshop manual but it is a bit vauge. It does not seem to affect the movement of the car, as in, when it happens its not jerky or stumbling, but it happens during acceleration, once I'm going it seems to stop. It was not so bad at first but is progressively getting worse. I've stopped driving it for the time being till I can find out what is going on back there. I was hoping someone here has ran across this before and can help me out.

It's most likely a bad wheel bearing. You just need to replace the bearing hub. I would recommend replacing both because usually is one is worn, The other isn't too far behind.

Could be a axle (C/V joint) going bad also they tend to make a clicking or ratchiting noise when they go out
