I own a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2l and today it pretty much died on me.
Long story short is I went on a trip. Rattling noise started out light not too noticeable. Car cut off twice on my way to the destination once at a stop light another time when attempting to park. Was able to get it started and head back home. Rattling noise got louder but would only make a sound while I pushed the accelerator, and at every idle the car would cut off(Stop lights/signs/etc.)
Heading to an intersection the rattling noise was very loud and I knew when I got to the stoplight it would cut out on me again(and it did). This time it was gone though. Would not start at all. Any attempts to start would make a single *click* sound from the engine and nothing else would happen. No crank, no start.

So pretty much like the title said Rattling while accelerating & Dying while idling.
And car won't crank at all. Just a *Click* sound.

Ecotech 2.2? How's your oil level, sounds like the timing chain/tensioner, if so, bad news.

Oil level is good. Not Ecotech, 2200. Is there an easy way to find out if it's the timing chain/tensioner?

Pull the spark plugs, remove the valve cover, and try turning the engine clockwise with a wrench/socket. If it wont turn and/or you see no pushrod movement the chain may have broken and valves maybe hitting pistons.

Thanks. I'll try that just as soon as I get the chance.
