re: overhead light above the rear view mirror

I pulled the light/switch assembly out so I could rig a manual switch (both of the original switches are busted). How do I get the light assembly back in? and how do I get the outer cover over the lights back on? I can attach a picture if needed.

I assume you mean the map lamp.
There is a 1AAuto video on removing a map light on an Equinox, check out if it is the same.
 
I guess there called map lights. The 2 lights are dead center above the wind shield and the rear view mirror. The lights normally come on when one or more of the doors are opened. Or push the manual over ride buttons. The buttons are busted. I am trying to rig a switch to get one of the lights to turn on in manual over ride mode. BTW this is on a 2008 Torrent. What is an Equinox?

I looked at the video for the map light in the Chevy Equinox. It is not the same as the Torrent. I still don't know how to put the map light assembly back in place.
 
What I'm unclear on is you knew how to remove it, what is different in reinstalling it?
