I bought a disc brake conversion kit and upon installation of the rear axel it only goes in so far. The splines are lined up but it’s not going in all the way

Did you contact the company you purchased the kit from?
Are you sure the bearing is fully pressed on the axle?
Did you use a soft faced hammer on the axle to drive it in?

Since I have no idea what parts you changed on the axle that the vendor supplied, contact them.
You are sure you used sufficient force to install the axle?

All I changed was I put a new wheel bearing and the brake kit has a metal plate in replace of the drum backing plate

Did you accurately measure the outside diameter of the old bearing compared to the new one?

No I took the new bearings and the axels into my local shop to be replaced and pressed on

So now the only thing you can do is verify you installed the correct part number bearings and then measure a second set of them to compare to the ones you had pressed on.
What year is the car, what manufacturer and part# bearing did you install?

It’s a 1970 with the 10 bolt rear end. I don’t remember exactly what part number the new bearings are but I’ll dig around for the receipt
