Trying to remove the Harmonic Balancer on my 1968 Pontiac Lemans 350. I cannot get the center nut to budge. Have layered with penetrating oil a couple times. I am assuming this is a standard nut and loosing the nut is . . lefty loosey? How do I stop the balancer from turning so I can get enough pressure on the wrench to loosen the nut.

Thanks . . . JIMB

well depending on what is available, impact gun, a helper with a large screwdriver who wedges it to catch a tooth on the ring gear, tighten all the belts around the pulley really tight temporarily. Yes counterclock wise loosens it. Might want to let the oil sit overnight.

Ok. Used a long bar and wedged it against the body of the car while I turned the car over. Took two turns and the bolt was free. All good. Now onto taking off the balancer with a pulley tool . . . .JIMB

Harmonic Pulley came off easy. See my next Thread about Chain and Fuel Pump eccentric.
