I’m trying to remove the drivers outside rear view mirror. The mirror is held in place by 2 nuts that are screwed onto studs attached to the base of the mirror. The problem is accessing the nuts after removing the inner door panel. I spent the better part of an hour unsuccessfully trying all manner of different methods and tools trying to get onto either of them securely. The only way I can see to access them is to remove the window from the door. That seems really extreme and the Fisher Body manual only says to remove the nuts after removing the panel. Am I missing something simple?? Thanks!

I believe you have a 72?
Are these body color Sport mirrors or chrome mirrors?
I'm familiar with the body color mirrors on my 71. They are not held on that way. They use brackets that are screwed into the sheet metal and then the mirror attaches with a screw onto the bracket.
I can only assume you have chrome and wonder if a person with a skinny arm could get in there with a 1/4 drive ratchet.

1972, correct. Also correct on the mirror style, chrome with cable controls. I know how your mirror installs, the same way the passenger mirror I just installed attaches. I want to replace the outside plastic base bezel that is currently missing on the driver mirror.

I can reach the nuts with my fingers but not with enough room to manipulate any tools. The angle of access from every opening in the door is restricted somehow with the window in either the up or down position. Weird. There has to be a way without removing the window. I’ll keep looking.

Got it! New day, new approach and off in 10 minutes. Thanks for your time though!
