I have ripped the old Firewall Pad out of the car / 68 Lemans. When I got the car there was no carpet in the car so I have no idea what a new carpet will cover. Should I put a new firewall pad back in the car OR not put the firewall pad in the car and just use some sound deadening material (like dynamite - or I will take suggestions) ? Or, should I put sound deadening material in the car and also put in a new firewall pad in the car? Thoughts, suggestions or other options. Thanks . . . JIMB

well either original style padding or depending on how noisey an engine you are going to build you can use the newer materials. No need for both.

Well, I don't know which type of padding came out, but the replacement padding that you get from LMC is the same stuff that you can buy at Home Depot. It's silver Mylar backed with almost a bubble wrap inside. Typically, when you buy it from a restoration group, it's often pre-cut, but it's just a roll that you can use in other areas of your car as well.

CatSkinner . . how would you compare the stuff that can be bought at Home Depot compared to Dynamat material ? I have a hard time spending the money on Dynamat but I also do not want to go cheap. The material I took out of the car was the original padding. it was nasty, old, rotted, mold and probably was asbestos based. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks . . . JIMB

Looks like the same stuff, if you've seen Dynamat, stop by a Home Depot and check it out, it's near the styrofoam insulation.
