Hello!

My sister has a 1997 Sunfire (2.2L 5-speed) and the clutch is going out. Her shift linkage went bad, she took it to the shop, and they said it was caused by a bad clutch (is that possible?) At any rate, I said I'd help her over the holidays when I go to visit. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, I've done timing belts, water pumps, exhaust, brakes, etc but never a clutch. I need advice.

I'll definitely be buying a shop manual (not that chilton or haynes garbage) to start, and just seeing what we can do. I'm looking for any and all tips, advice, guidance, etc. Anything helps!

Thanks a lot, cheers!

If you sign up at www.autozone.com they will give you the complete step by step on changing the clutch. Make sure the problem isnt the slave or master cylinder before replacing it.

basically you have to unhook the linkage from the trans... remove intake housing thing in wheel well remove motor mount..... remove axles, Remove all subframe bolts as it will have to be dropped .... best bet is to get 4 jack stands and 2 Jacks for that step.... remove all bolt from transmission housing.... remove rear transmission mount.... remove cross arm for subframe on driver side I might have forgot a few things but basically just looking make sure everything is clear and off trans... I drop the subframe but the most on the driver side..... I also suggest a friend to help push up while pushing in.... Any prob email me .... Mattdog2020585@gmail.com its not bad really as long as u have faith in urself
