Reverse light switch

I just bought a 2000 sunfire with a short shifter and when I go in reverse you have to fiddle around with the shifter to get the reverse lights on. I'm pretty sure their must be a problem with the switch contacts in the shifter. How do I remove the plastic and stuff to get into the switch contacts, has anyone else had this problem?

did you look at the transaxle, drivers side of car, where the shifter mechanism is located?

No I did not. So I should be looking in the passanger side wheel well? What should I be looking for?

is their anyway i can fix the problem im having, or do i have to replace the switch completely?

I cannt answer that without seeing the car, check for a bad connection or try replacing the switch.

I can't find the backup neutral safety switch, does anyone have a picture of where it is mounted on the transmission?
