Hello everyone, new to the forums, looked through several threads and thought this site looked like my new home as a pontiac owner.
Alas, my first post is about a problem with my car. Well, I had just purchased a 1999 Sunfire GT from a local, and understood from the seller that the car had been sitting for approx five or so months undriven. So on the way home driving it, it seemed alright until the last leg of the trip it started to hesitate and puttputt, but would regain power and seemed fine again moments later. When I parked it and started going through it all, the idle would waiver between rough and normal. On one occasion it even stalled out.
Now I'm no mechanic, but I know a few things and this had me thinking all sorts of stuff like "OMG I got screwed on this deal" haha, well I went and scanned the car and had 3 codes pop.
P0300 - Multiple Engine Misfire Detected
P0335 - CKP Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0341 - Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Performance
Now, from that I gather, the CKP Sensor, and CMP Sensor are bad... is that common for both to go bad at the same time? Also, what are the chances it's not even a sensor and it's something more along the lines of a timing problem?
Now if it's the sensors, they don't seem too expensive, Autozone has both for $20 each. Are they hard to get to in terms of position to replace? Would I need to start yanking stuff out to get to them in order to do that. I'm just worried it'll end up being more than I can chew yanno?
Anyways, any help, suggestions, or advice is welcome, and thanks for having forums such as these!
