royal purple oil

Hi , I have a 67 400 engine with Edelbrock heads , 1.65 roller rockers Crower cam with hydrolic lifters , it will not be used on the strip, just road use, the compression is around 10.5 & I use 97 octane fuel , I wish to know if it is safe to put in Royal Purple oil ??, any help please

Only if it has sufficient zinc and phosphrous, ZDDP, for an engine with a flat tappet cam. Read this link for proper oil for older design engines. A particular Royal Purple oil is listed near the top of the list. Personally I use the VR1 Silver Bottle 5W30 which is available on Amazon.

Thanks , thats Valvoline VR1 , yes ? has this got better properties than the Royal Purple XPR or HPS ?

Going back to the link above you will see the VR1 is number 2 on the list and the XPR is number 6 and the HPS is number 11. So they are all in the top rated but VR1 showed a higher load carrying ability.
