I'm headed out on vacation. I'm 800 miles from home. All of a sudden the power windows, door locks, interior lights all become intermittent. Pull off at the hotel for the night and as I'm checking the fuses a sound starts. It's and electrical sound like a frozen motor and it sounds like its coming from the drivers side headlight. Any help is appreciated as I have another 700 miles to go tomorrow before I have a place with tools available.

not sure what year montana you have but some of the newer vehicles have a fuel evaporator pump which is part of the emissions system .

looking at some of your older posts looks as if you have a 2003 ,so do I and I am pretty sure I don't have a fuel evap pump or at least I never hear it so maybe is it your anti-lock brake pump ?

definitily not a brake issue. It really sounds as if it is coming from the head light. I woke up this morning and no sound. Radiator is full. Oil is good. Temp fudge never climbed yesterday. I guess I'll find out in a couple hundred miles how bad off I am.

They just ran codes for me at advanced and it didn't throw anything. His best guess was that we overheated the trans. Recommendation: drive it the rest of the way and take extra breaks.

well I don't know how he can assume it was the tranny as far as I know they don't make noise when they get hot. Let me tell you what happened to me on vacation a few years back , I was driving home from the beach in my then 2000 short wheel base montana(160k) up through the west by God virgina mountains fully loaded with wife and 4 kids plus a clam shell bulging and the ac on,but the tranny was hunting between 3 and od(shifting back and forth)and before you know it my temp gauge was very high but not hot anyhow all of a sudden it down shifted in to 3 and would not shift out of third until we were on the flat for a few miles probably until the temp lowered itself. After that trip the tranny began to whine ever so slightly then as time and mileage went by the whine got real loud untill the kids and wife were embarressd to ride in it ,you would hear it before you could see it . So does your tranny whine ? If your van is hunting alot then shift it into 3 to prevent this . And last of all I guess a tranny cooler wouldn't hurt either(something I want to do). Good luck and enjoy your vacation and keep us posted.

No whining, no hard shifting, no real issues since that evening. I finished my trip. No break downs. It may have been an over heating issue. It was a 104 heat index day. And we spent hours in traffic.

Overheating makes sense ,you may of heard a hissing sound like a steam leak which is maybe what you really had coolant was bleeding off into the recovery tank ever so slowly.Glad to hear you made it and enjoy the rest of it.

definitily not a coolant leak or overflow hiss. It had to have been electrical because the sound was only there when the key was on or on acc. It still hasn't done it again, but I have to head home on the 9th, so I'd like to get together some idea of what it was before I go.

Well you have a weird problem the only thing I can come up with is maybe the wiring was shorting out and you heard a sizzling sound were the current was jumping or a corroded connection but it fixed itself that would explain why the windows and other electrical stuff was messed up. At this point I am taking guesses ,hope this helps
