New to the forum here for some guidance and another brain to pick at.
I have a 2001 pontiac grand am SE 4dr 2.4L twin cam.
im the second owner of the car.

so heres some details.

when i first got the car i was told it doesnt shift out of second gear, i took it upon myself to check the fluids as directed from another site by going through each gear and letting it sit for a few seconds between shifts to other positions went all the way down and back up to park. was told to leave the car running and take out the drain bolt when the fluid stops it is at its right level, it didnt solve my shifting problems. when the oil came out it was black in color and smelt burnt. i unpluged the TCC plug and drove it around but still nothing happend still not wanting to leave second gear.

on the other hand when i first start the car it runs great. let it sit there or drive it around till the temp gauge reads its middle leave being hot it starts to sputter and die on me. the oil is low on the car, the throttle body does look a little dirty but its not bad. any ideas as to why the car runs when cold but as soon as it sees heat its all down hill?

yes i have done nothing but research and have found no problems with actual answers. i know its a hard one to pin point over some text on the internet but ill do my best to give any information possible to get this figured out before emptying the pockets to a mechanic.

Is your check engine light on? Have you had the trani scanned for codes? Have you checked your fuel pressure ?

service engine light is on. i havent gotten it up to a shop to get a scan on it yet. what should the fuel pressure be at?

im guessing there is no other way to get around that test without getting a banjo fitting for the car?

found the problem in regards to falling on its face when hot. there was a bad vaccum hose right under the throttle body. it was dry rotted like no ones business. i slapped a new hose on it and to confirm the fix i pulled the hose one it to let a little bit of exterior air in and it started falling once it was connected again it ran just like normal.

This sounds like it's time for a tranny rebuild.

Oh no, im fixin to get a new one
