shift lever

I have a 2005 sv6 and the shift lever is giving us problems, when you step on the brake to shift it into gear it won't move its stuck, and then when i turn down the radio and blower i can then listen for the click sound when i step on the brake and it seems like you really have to step on it hard any ideas anyone

check your brake light switch to see if it needs adjusting or replacement to start with. If that is ok than I would suspect the solenoid that releases the lock for the shifter.
