I posted a help question a few days ago and consulted a mechanic. Here's a question for the gurus of Familia Pontiac.
"If the A/T shift solenoid is going bad, could this cause the car to "jump/stutter/chug" at constant speeds? If I accellerate easily, the car goes. Once I'm at a steady speed (regardless of what that speed is) it begins to buck. Let off the gas, give it gas again, it goes untill I'm at a steady speed again. If I stomp the gas, it boggs and doesn't want to accelerate or shift. Additionally, my exhaust is extremely sooty. I thought maybe a fuel mixture problem, but I have replaced the plugs, checked the wires, replaced the fuel filter, I have a good fuel pump and working injectors, air filter is new and no vacuum leaks I can find. I'm about to change out the trans filter and fluid, but while I'm in there I might as well change the shift solenoid if you believe this could be my elusive grimlin." HELP!!! Thanks in advance.
