I have a 2003 GA, under hard acceleration the trans. will not upshift, also it is very sluggish from idle to 3000 rpm. After 3000 rpm it will accelerate like normal up to 5500 rpm but no higher and will not upshift.

any ideas

Could be two separate issues. The trani sounds like a shift solenoid problem. Do you have a check engine light?

shifting issues

No check engine light, drove it on a 600 mile trip 2 weeks ago and it seemed fine. Only other abnormality is the temp fluctuates btw 205 and 215 degrees F.

My 02 goes to 215 while sitting and fans will come on and bring it down to 195/200. I checked a few things and when I got to the rad cap the spring flew off and almost hit me in the face so I think that might of been my issue I'm still testing.

03_GA,
I would suggest that you have your local GM dealer look into this for you. They should be able to assist you in getting this issue diagnosed for you. I would also like you to keep me posted on your concern and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,

update

The problem has intensified it will no longer accelerate past 4000 rpm and "pings" under heavy acceleration. I do not believe this is at all related to the transmission. Have replaced the EGR valve because the SES light finally came on and the code was EGR control fault. But that didn't solve anything.

Please post the exact codes

P0404 i believe. the SES light went off on its own after i had the code read. I do know it was an EGR code.

I drove the car with the egr valve unplugged and it was exactly the same, i thought the valve would stay open if unplugged. Anyone know a good shop around Houston that can do a full diagnostic?

seems to be a plague of these recently

I found a magnaflow direct fit cat on rockauto for 150.00 shipped to my house.

I thought you were still looking for a tech to diagnose the EGR.
