Hello, all
I'm replacing 305 engine in a 1983 trams am cross fire fuel injection. If I choose to remove the catalytic converter and smog control will this affect the computer system?
Thank you,
Melissa

Exactly what parts do you mean by smog control?
Does your car have an O2 sensor before and after the cat?

I think the O2 sensor is before the cat.
Thank you,
Melissa

What else are you removing?
Also what do you mean by replacing, what are putting in and do you intend to keep the crossfire FI?

I'm hoping to remove the air pump and the stainless tubes on the manifold. The O2 sensor is at the manifold. It has a tube from the cat but no sensor down. I'm planning to stay with the cfi.
Thank you!

The engine computer depends on various sensor inputs including the O2 sensor. The O2 sensor depends on the air pump injecting extra air/oxygen into the exhaust. If you remove the air pump the O2 sensor will read a false rich condition causing the computer to lean out the mixture. As long as you remain with the computer controlled injection system you are limited as to what can be done. As long as you have no state inspection requiring the cat you can remove it.
