speedometer transmitter 85 fiero manual

Help! I was blissfully checking my transaxle fluid at the direction of Mr. Haynes' manual when I pulled out the speedometer transmitter and there was no gear on the bottom like in the picture! Is the picture incorrect or is the gear floating around in the transaxle waiting to do all sorts of mischief?

No the gear fell off. It will not do any damage as it is just a plastic gear and it is common with age/mileage that they become loose and fall off or apart. I droped my down there when i was checking mine before. Its been down the 1000+ miles and nothing has happend to me.

dropped gear from speed sensor

It's a five-speed transaxle, Isuzu, I believe. The Fiero Store link doesn't list either gear for an '85 5-speed. Is the same tranny in the '86?

They red gear is for the Isuzu 5-spd. Looks like they mis-typed the years as the Isuzu was the same trans from 1985 thru 1988.

Thanks, guys. I'm a year away from retirement, and this is the project I plan on riding off into the sunset. Old cars: one thing after another. I should have my head examined, but I always wanted a Fiero.
