speedometer

We were driving and i looked at speedometer and it said we were going 110 mph. the gps said 56. Then i notice ot was stuck on 110. Got the idea to slam the brakes on and it started to work again but its about 4 mph off. what could it bw?

do you have a check engine light on? did you try replacing the vehicle speed sensor located on the transmission housing?
