The speedo cable on the 78 Transam is squeaking/rattling pretty badly. Can this be fixed by greasing the cable like the old days? What would be the process? I don't see cables for sale on ebay.
Have you tried www.amesperf.com. You can use a special speedo cable lubricant by pulling the inner cable out at the trani and then reinserting it. Do not lubricate the speedometer end of the cable, if grease gets inside you will have an issue.
Thanks for the comment. I had not tried to search for a cable there. The price looks reasonable and I'd rather get a new one. I'd best make sure that the engine and transmission are the same first though.
